Start the New Year with Brompton! ‘Hatsumode Ride’ Event Report

On January 12, 2025, we hosted the “Let’s Go with Brompton! Hatsumode Ride 2025” in Omiya, Saitama Prefecture. This event, supported by Brompton Japan, featured a leisurely 10km cycling tour through the streets of Omiya, a city where Kenta spent his youth. Nine participants joined us for a day of relaxed riding on their Bromptons. Here’s a recap of the day’s adventure!

Ride Report

Our meeting point was Kanezuka Park, just a five-minute walk from the west exit of Omiya Station. The Discover Ride logo and a lineup of colorful Bromptons greeted the participants.

Tsucchi provided a briefing on the day’s ride, detailing the itinerary, distance, and safety precautions to ensure a secure experience for all.

We rode the iconic British folding bike, the Brompton. Mr. Gōda from Brompton Japan (affectionately known as “GōGō-san”) offered a demonstration on folding techniques and gear operation.

With temperatures hovering around 5°C, we engaged in light stretching to warm up before setting off toward Musashi Ichinomiya Hikawa Shrine.

With everything set, we kicked off the ride, heading towards Musashi Ichinomiya Hikawa Shrine!

As we cycled through Omiya, participants appreciated the Brompton’s smooth performance. The frequent stop-and-go of city traffic was made easier by the bike’s small wheels, which allowed for quick acceleration with minimal effort.

Our first destination was Musashi Ichinomiya Hikawa Shrine. The parking area showcased a vibrant array of parked Bromptons.

At the shrine, each participant offered prayers for health, safety, and an enjoyable cycling year ahead.

After the visit, we strolled through the historic grounds, deepening connections among participants.

Leaving the shrine, we took a leisurely ride through the adjacent Omiya Park. With three Brompton models available (C Line, T Line, P Line), participants had the opportunity to test each and compare their riding experiences.
※About the types of Brompton

After a 3km ride from Omiya Park, we arrived at “Mihashi no Mori,” a complex featuring a wedding venue, French restaurant, bakery café, and nursery school.

Coincidentally, an open house event was underway at the wedding venue, complete with a stamp rally. Our group enthusiastically participated, searching for keywords placed throughout the facility.

After completing the stamp rally, everyone joined the raffle. To our surprise, Tsucchi drew a winning ticket—could this be a sign of a promising year ahead?

We then enjoyed a hearty salad lunch and warm drinks at Café Bosquet within Mihashi no Mori, relaxing in the cozy atmosphere.

Our next stop was “Liberty Bikes,” a local bicycle shop.

The shop is owned by Kenta’s close friend, Yū Sekiguchi (known as “Yū-kun,” pictured on the right), who introduced Kenta to the world of cycling.

Inside, participants engaged in lively discussions about cycling while browsing various accessories.

After completing the approximately 10km route, we returned to Kanezuka Park, where we practiced folding our Bromptons, marking the end of the ride.

Post-ride, conversations continued as participants reflected on the day’s journey, compared Brompton models, and shared plans for future rides, all in a friendly and welcoming atmosphere.

In conclusion, the “Hatsumode Ride” offered a unique way to celebrate the New Year with Brompton enthusiasts. We extend our heartfelt thanks to all participants and to Brompton Japan for their support. We look forward to organizing more exciting cycling events in the future. Stay tuned for our next adventure, and we hope to see you there!
