Farewell trip of the Hakodate Honsen in HokkaidoThe JR Hakodate Main Line between Oshamambe and Otaru has been scheduled to be closed due to the extension of the Hokkaido Shinkansen line to Sapporo in 2030. Kenta-san, who had always wanted to ride in Hokkaido in summer, was invited by train enthusiast Tsucchi to join him on this 4-day/3-night bicycle trip in Hokkaido!
DAY 4 Otaru Station - Sapporo Station
Today is the last day of our 4-day/3-night trip. The plan was to take it easy and ride around Sapporo on the last day, but I unexpectedly had bike trouble. Despite being pressed for time, the ride was short but very satisfying, with a delicious lunch and a stop at a scenic spot.

On the first day, we flew from Haneda Airport to Hakodate Airport, the starting point of the tour. We assembled the bikes at Hakodate Airport and shipped the bags by courier to our hotel in Sapporo. The ride started late, before noon, due to the time taken to prepare for the ride. The day started at a fast pace, with the goal of reaching Choumanbu, 120km away, by sunset.

The second day of the tour will run along the Hakodate Main Line, commonly known as the "Mountain Line". On this day, the route starts from Nagamanbe and heads for Niseko. In contrast to yesterday's flat route, the route to Niseko is about 80km of continuous climbing.

The weather was typical Hokkaido summer weather, with a little humidity and dryness, although the sun was still shining during the day. On the third day, we headed for Otaru Station, the terminus of the Hakodate Main Line, which is scheduled to be closed. The route is basically uphill from the morning, and we pass through the Inaho Tunnel, the longest tunnel of the trip, to the Sea of Japan.

ROUTE
The route starts from Hakodate Airport and runs along the JR Hakodate Main Line. From Nagamabe, the route passes through Niseko and Otaru to reach the goal, Sapporo Station. The route has a total distance of approximately 330km.
